Writing Online – Is it for you?

Most writers do not understand that the method of writing online is completely different from writing offline- for magazines, newspapers, etc. An article which might be very successful offline, may not receive the same response from online readers and similarly, an article which gets many visitors online, might not find may readers if it was published in a magazine or a newspaper.

It is only due to this fact that many good writers, do not want to write for the web, and decide to keep working offline. Most who think that there is absolutely no difference between web writing and offline writing, often fail to succeed and learn the truth, the hard way. Authors also believe that the earnings via writing online are much less as compared to offline. This is a misconception, and if you know the right way to do it, then only the sky is the limit for earnings from quality content.

writing4.gifA freelancer online is paid according to the word count of the content he is able to produce. Only the article must be unique, grammatically correct, and informative. Whether, the articles can actually hold the reader’s attention is not of much importance. Offline writers are paid royalty, and if their writing is a great success, than earning a few thousand dollars becomes quite easy. Still, an online writer can earn much more, even from an article which is not as great or just worth $10 or less.

So, the question still remains – “How?” The answer is simple- the Search Engines! The search engines are a boon to webmasters. The number of readers an article gets depends on how well search engine optimized it is. The greater the number of visitors, the greater will be the popularity.

Online writers can earn more with less effort. The important factor to be considered while writing an essay online, is the keyword, the article is targeting.  A web article must be rich in keywords, and hence appeal to search engines. Keyword Density is the term used to denote the ratio of the keywords to the total number of words in the article.

The negative side of online writing is the competition involved. According to a recent survey, every 8th person who has access to the internet wants to have a blog, where he can write something. There are trillions of news sites, content based websites, and blogs. All webmasters and online content producers have the same objective to write quality content for both the readers and the search engines. Therefore, standing out in the crowd is quite difficult, and may take some time as compared to the instant success which the offline writers get.

Therefore before you want to start writing online you must consider whether you have the patience, the time and the talent to do it. Not just your writing skills, but also, your typing speed, your Search Engine Optimization skills, etc. would be decisive. If you think you can still do it, the best way to start online, is to get a free blog, and write your first words!
